CarrotMy grandma used to say that Carrots give you beautiful thighs and is good for the skin.They are very easy to grow. Plant them early spring to late summer and use the whole plant when it is very young. All orange fruit and vegetable are full of good antioxidants and boost the immune system; they are rich in Vitamin A such as Beta-carotene. They protect against cancer and tumour, are excellent to stop colic, diarrhoea, typhoid fever, gastro-enteritis and dysentery. CeleryCelery likes sandy soil and good natural fertiliser. Eat it as a vegetable and collect the seeds.It is good against cystitis, liver problems and arthritis; the seeds reduce blood pressure and cholesterol. It is rich in Iron, Vitamins A, B & C. ChamomileChamomile was the Egyptians' favorite herb. It symbolises purity and helps meditation.Plant Chamomile in full sun or semi-shade and collect the flowers in Summer. Chamomile calms the mind, eases menstrual pain, and reduces menopause problems. It has anti-inflamatory properties good for neuralgia and rheumatism. Use it to clean open wounds and as a eyewash against conjunctivitis. Chamomile contains Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, and Vitamin A. However, do not infuse it for more than 3 min as it may have annoying effects such as nausea and even irritability for some people. it may also cause and exarcerbate allergy. DandelionDandelion is a marvellous plant meaning the tooth of a lion in French because its healing power is as strong as a lion. Its other name is Pissenlit which means wetting the bed as it is a good diuretic. Just be aware that some plants look like dandelion but are not. Dandelion has a hollow stem.It is a self-seeding plant growing almost anywhere. In Spring use the young shoots in salad; take and dry the roots in Autumn. Dandelion cleans the bloodstream and purifies the blood; it is very good for liver problems and dissolves gall stones. It also improves appetite and digestion.
